Overview
- Location
- Six locations in sequence: (1) Undead Burg, on the bridge opposite the Hellkite Dragon; (2) Anor Londo, beside the first bonfire, past the Silver Knight archers; (3) Sunlight Altar (Undead Parish, right of the bonfire), optional; (4) Demon Ruins, near the bonfire following the Centipede Demon fight; (5) Lost Izalith, near the Bed of Chaos fog door, if his questline conditions aren't met; (6) Kiln of the First Flame, at the top of the staircase, if his questline is completed properly.
- Access condition
- Must be in human form to see and use his summon sign, which appears directly before boss fog doors at each of his stages.
- Can die
- yes
- Death or hostility conditions
- If summoned and he dies during a boss fight, the player does not receive his Sunlight Medal reward. Separately, if the player reaches Lost Izalith without killing the red-eyed Chaos Bug there, it infects Solaire's mind; he goes permanently hostile and insane (the community-known "Sunlight Maggot" ending), ending with him being defeated in a state of madness, presumably Hollowed. Entering Lost Izalith through the lava pools instead of the Chaos Servant shortcut also triggers his hostility immediately.
- Keeps selling if hostile survives
- not applicable
- Dialogue progression
- Introduces himself and offers cooperation in Undead Burg. Reappears after the Bell Gargoyles in Anor Londo. Can be found reflecting near the Demon Ruins bonfire before Lost Izalith. To preserve his sanity, the player must kill the red-eyed Chaos Bug before fully entering Lost Izalith -- via the Chaos Servant covenant shortcut, poison/breath spells through the closed door, or a Dragon Greatsword two-handed strong attack through the door -- then speak to him afterward to unlock his final summon sign at the Kiln of the First Flame. Reaching the Kiln without speaking to him after Lost Izalith prevents that final summon from appearing at all.
- Relocates
- yes
- Relocation note
- Undead Burg -> Anor Londo -> (optional) Sunlight Altar in Undead Parish -> Demon Ruins -> Lost Izalith (critical branch point) -> Kiln of the First Flame, if his sanity was preserved.
- Note
- One of the Ledger's clearest examples of a fully missable 'good ending' NPC arc -- a single missed step (not killing the Chaos Bug in time) permanently changes his fate for that playthrough.
