Location

Three locations in sequence: (1) The Catacombs, up a ladder before the spiky bridge; (2) Tomb of the Giants, after Rhea departs or the player enters that area; (3) Firelink Shrine, as a merchant, in a small cove facing Kingseeker Frampt's direction, after Gravelord Nito is defeated.

Access condition

His Catacombs encounter is blocked/redirected if the player speaks to Petrus of Thorolund after Rhea has arrived at Firelink -- doing so triggers Rhea and Patches to depart for the Tomb of the Giants instead. His Firelink merchant stop only opens after Gravelord Nito is defeated.

Death or hostility conditions

Becomes hostile if the player confirms being a cleric when he asks during his signature trap encounter, or if the player dies before speaking to him after being kicked off the cliff in the Tomb of the Giants. Certain exploit methods (Dark Hand attacks, kicking him, using the Ring of Fog) can be used on him without triggering hostility. Source does not specify whether he can be permanently killed.
